OMG THE PIECE IS BEYOND WORDS. This is a lidded compote made by Gillinder & Sons of Philadelphia shortly after the Centennial Exhibition (1876/77). It is done in what was called "Pioneer" but is now commonly referred to as "Westward Ho".
Inspired by Manifest Destiny the pattern has a log cabin and a buffalo with trees, and a sun peeking through the mountains on one side. On the other side a buck and a doe face each other in front of more mountains. The lid is crowned with an Indian reading tracks. Part of the base and the Indian are frosted glass while the rest is clear.This compote/candy dish measures 9 inches tall with the finial and the dish
is 6 3/4 inches by 3 7/8 and is approximately 2 inches deep. This is a RARE gem, historical and elegant and simple.
